Old German Spun Cotton Basket with a Bird Nest, 2 Cotton Parent Birds, and a Cotton Baby in the Nest

Old German Spun Cotton Basket with a Bird Nest,  2 Cotton Parent Birds, and a Cotton Baby in the Nest. Circa 1890. This ornament is 4 1/2" to the top of the berry branch. It is 3" wide and 2 1/2" deep. The parent birds have white, embossed paper Dresden wings. The cotton baby is light yellow and has black eyes and a tiny red beak. The original fine gold thread hanger like the earliest figural cotton ornaments had is still on the handle of the basket and hangs down toward the back. However, the basket hangs from a sturdy twisted wire on the top of the handle. The basket IS round but looks angular from certain perspectives. The black/gold glitter "slash" lines on the cotton basket heighten this effect. This is a truly amazing work of art, and it's in exceptional condition with only some minor expected age wear, mostly to leaves and/or red berries. We purchased this basket years ago with the larger basket. I think they have probably been together since they were made.
